Autumn calving is over, Christmas is nearly upon us and all the cows are inside eating lots of silage. Spring calving is due to start in January so we have lots of expectant ladies hanging around whilst the autumn calvers are doing a lovely job looking after their young ones, who very much enjoy tearing about the shed at playtime in their fresh straw bedding!

With nearly all the cattle housed for the entire winter period, mucking out is a never ending job - we do look forward to Spring when the cows can be turned out to grass!

A new set of calves are now being born at Albany farm - we calve in the autumn as well as Spring, so all eyes are on the expectant ladies waiting for theirs to be born! Some lovely calves so far :)

Silage, hay and straw has all been baled, wraped, carted and stacked ready for the winter season when all the cows will come in expecting something tasty to eat!

Many thanks to Patrick and Esther Lynn for starting their Hereford herd with some Albany females! Four in-calf cows and heifers have made their way to the Lynn family farm - the first cows to set foot on the place since 1992. Along with two cows from Helen MacLeod, they will form the basis of the Hockerwood herd - and calves have already started dropping! Best of luck to Patrick, Esther and their two lovely daughters.

The Royal Norfolk, Great Yorkshire and Royal Welsh Shows have gone by in a whizz this year, but we have had a great time!

At the beginning of the year, Ken Hosking from Cornwall bought four in-calf heifers and a bull to start his own Original Population Hereford herd. He has sent some photos to let us know how they have settled in to life down near Penzance and we are chuffed!

We've also had some feedback from Adrian Oliver, Farm Manager at Derby College where we sold young British White bull Alcroft Blackjack, delivered to them around 9 months ago and surprise surprise...he's been busy! His first calves are now arriving and looking good; Adrian also says that he is fitting into college life really well.

It was the turn of the OP Herefords to take a trip to the Royal Three Counties Show at Malvern on 19th June, where we competed in the Sunday show classes for Herefords with no imported bloodlines.

The Breed Champion on the day was a 4-year-old second calver bred here at Albany Farm - Albany Showgirl, owned by Mrs C Redmayne.

We also exhibited a young bull, Albany Lucifer, who won first place in his class and went on to be Reserve Male Champion.

We took five British Whites to the South of England Show and were chuffed to come away with some great prizes!

Stock bull Rotavator was Male Champion, yearling heifer Dancer was Junior Champion and senior heifer Georgia picked up the Reserve Female and Reserve Breed Championships.
